Go Kart Racer!
Looking for something to do thats different than your normal social activities living in the city? Then look no further. I’ve got your answer right here.
These are the only requirements: A car, casual clothing, tennis shoes, and $32 and you’re ready for an evening unlike any other.
Tonight we traveled 15 minutes south of the city into Burlingame and went Go Kart Racing. Now, this isn’t your Malibu Grand Prix track or bumper cars at the local fair, I’m talking real Go Kart Racing. The kind where you have to watch an informational video, wear proper racing gear (which they provide you), a helmet, and use the kind of flags they use at real racing events.
Here’s the quick showdown for newbies:
1) Walk in and self-register on the Go Kart Racer computer system.
2) Buy a 10 minute practice driving session (priced at $25) + $7 for a racing license (annual fee). I know, I know. 10 minutes doesn’t seem like that much, but trust me, for a beginner, its more than enough. But, if you’re feeling over-zealous and want more time, you can purchase the Race or Grand Prix sessions for 20 total minutes or 30 total minutes, respectively.
3) Put on a one-piece racer suit (available from small to extra large in both men and women) and wait for one of the staff members to let you in the “Briefing Room” to watch a five minute informational video. During the video, they detail everything about the race, from how to pick the right helmet to how to step into the Go Kart and what the various flag colors mean.
4) Once you’ve completed the video, then you’re ready to roll! There were about 6 of us total racing on the track tonight, and the most experienced drivers go first. Then its race time, baby! The first two laps will probably be your slowest timed laps, but as you get used to the course, each lap thereafter, is easier and easier.
I highly recommend all of you thrill-seeking San Franciscans to venture out 15 minutes south of the City and experience REAL Go Kart Racing.
Gav for Guv!

As you all know by now, our own San Francisco major, Gavin Newsom is running for 2010 California State Governor, and I could not be more excited.
Over the last several weeks, “Gavy Gav” (as I like to call him) has been town-halling it all over the state of California. Today, he will appear in Santa Monica where more than 650 people have RSVPd for his forum.
His two main democratic competitors are current Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (age 56) and Former Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown (age 70), of which the latter has held the Office of Governor from 1975 to 1983 and currently holds the position of California State Atorney General.
So why do I think Gavvy’s got it for Guv and the other two do not?
1) Universal Healthcare: During his time as San Francisco mayor, Newsom started a universal healthcare program called ‘Healthy San Francisco’ which currently enrolls over 30,000 individuals. He feels that if ONE city is already on the way of providing universal health care for its residents, than a powerful state such as ours can also dp the same. And being in the healthcare profession myself, I strongly agree.
2) Public education: Established programs like Preschool for All and Afterschool for All and invested over $160 million dollars in public education. While other teachers are being layed off in cities across the state, San Francisco teachers are getting raises.
3) Our Environment: Newsom is a strong believer of adopting a culture of sustainability. He has set an example for the state by requiring San Francisco city government to be carbon neutral by 2020, investing in biodiesal conversion efforts of food waste and developing new ideas such as solar incentives and a local carbon offset program.
4) Social Media: Gav has made an immense effort in getting his voice heard through various avenues of social media, which is what is believed to help our very own US President Barack Obama get into office. Gav has very own Facebook age, a Twitter account, MySpace account, and various others to get his voice heard. It is because of these different venues that I feel more connected to him during this race to Governor.

“Kiss Me, I’m Irish”
Every year, on March 17th, people all around the world want nothing more than to be Irish for the day. It is the one day of the year where Guinness, Harp, Smithwick’s, and Bailey’s Irish Cream are sought after more than any other alcoholic beverage out there. Is the one day of the year where Whites, Blacks, Latinos, and Asians alike can say “Kiss Me, Im Irish” without getting odd stares.
In Boston, they dye the river green. As they also do in Indianapolis. Savannah (Georgia) dyes its downtown city fountains green. And in Missouri twelve city blocks are painted kelly green before the start of the parade.
So how do San Franciscan’s celebrate this Green holiday? Well, despite the fact, that our very own mayor, Gavin Newsom is Irish Catholic himself, since1852, San Francisco has held a huge St Patricks Day Parade (typically the weekend before). And of course, as environmentally conscious San Franciscans are, the theme of this years parade was “Go Green!”
So what about the day of? Even though St Patrick’s Day falls in the middle of the work week, it wont stop thousands of local San Franciscan’s from hitting up the most popular Irish Pubs in the city. Here is a compilation of the 10 best Irish Pubs in the City (according to 7 x 7 magazine).
Feel free to comment if you agree or disagree with the rankings.
Bottoms up, everyone! Happy St Pattys Day!
Breaking News: MUNI T-Line Collision in Dogpatch
You never know what life is going to throw to you (or into you) next. And today, 8 people riding on the T-Line (most likely going home for the day) really had no idea what their after-work commute was about to throw into them.
Around 3:20 pm this afternoon, the MUNI T-Line collided into an 18 wheel big rig, as the big rig was making an illegal left turn onto the tracks of an incoming T-line. The crash happened around 3rd street and 22nd street in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco.
8 people were transported to area hospitals, all reported having minor injuries.

The Dailey Method
With all the health-conscious, public transit using, work-out enthusiasts that live in San Francisco, it comes as no surprise that San Francisco is ranked number one as the fittest city in America. There is something about bragging to my friends on the East Coast or even in LA about MY city being the most healthy city out there that feels so damn good and makes me feel so freaking proud!
So how do I keep fit? Aside from trying to eat as healthy as possible and walking/using public transportation everday to and from work, I recently started going to The Dailey Method. A close friend of mine had taken this class several years back and had such positive things to say about her experience. And with a South Beach trip coming up at the end of the month, I decided that now was the time to get started in The Dailey Method. I am about 6 classes in and let me tell you, this class really knows how to kick your butt (in a good way, of course).
Ill be honest, though. After my first class, I came home feeling so discouraged, feeling as though all the other girls in the class were lightyears ahead of me. Their flexibility was just astonishing. There I was, with probably the tightest hamstrings in the world, unable to even place my foot on the bar. Luckily, I am surrounded by an immense amount of support and love in my life, that I was convinced to go to a second class. And it was after the second class, I realized that it didnt matter how flexible I was then, but rather, how flexible I was going to become.
The Work-Out: It is the hour that goes by the fastest in my day, by far. The workout includes mat stretching, weights, ballet barre work, and tons of core conditioning involving very familiar yoga and pilates moves. There is not one body part that gets to sit out during this workout. Every part of your body that you would want toned, gets toned: biceps, triceps, deltoids, abs, butt, thighs, quads, everything. No body part gets to sit this one out. You WILL feel a sore the next day, a sore that will want to just bring you back for another class.
Location: Fortunately, there is a studio literally just a half-block away from my apartment, which makes it so easy to come home from work, put on my yoga pants, and make it to a class. The studio is very well kept, well lit, and they have a nice locker room for those ladies who are coming straight after work. They have many other locations in and around San Francisco, and in Illinois as well. Click here to find a location near you.
Instructors: Amazing. In my 6 different classes, I have had 4 different trainers and all were good. Some were amazing, some less amazing, but overall, my experience with each of the instructors were good. So far, my favorite is Stephanie because she took the time (even when the class was full) to focus on my technique and alignment. After talking to several of my classmates, however, it seems that Katina is by far the most saught after. I will have to try her class next time.
Price: Not bad for the workout you receive. I have tried Pilates before and paid up to $35 per class. DM offers a new client one-month unlimited special for $100. Mind you, each class is $20, so for me, having gone to 6 classes, I have already made the most of my unlimited special. But trust me, you are going to want to keep going.
I highly suggest this class for women who are looking to get longer, leaner, stronger and more fit.

Sunday Brunch at Circa
I gotta say, there is something about having my best girlfriends and I reminsce about the antics from the nights before during a nice Sunday Brunch in the City. My friends and I have defintiely experienced our share of nightlife over the years, however, it wasnt until recently that we started making it out to popular Brunch places the next day. And it has now become my most favorite part of the weekend.
This afternoon, we went to Circa in the Marina, and it was absolutely fabulous. They had a DJ spinning music, bottomless Mimosas, and incredible dishes that are prepared to its finest. My girlfriends and I spent 4 and a half hours there: enjoying our Mimosas, reminiscing about the night before, and talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly about life.
Dishes, amongst the 6 of us, we ordered the following: (1) Egg White Scrambled Eggs with Ham, Mushroom, and Cheddar Cheese ; (2) Sourdough French Toast with bananas, strawberries, and cream; (3) Huevos Rancheros; (4) Sliders; and (5) Lobster and White Truffle Mac and Cheese. All were absolutely exquisite, although my favorite would have to be the Huevos Rancheros.
Mimosas: Our lovely host always kept the Carafe’s coming. However, the Mimosa’s werent always consistent. Sometimes they would look so diluted (aka super strong) and other times it would look like straight OJ. Regardless, you can never go wrong with bottomless Mimosa’s.
Music: I absolutely love that Circa has their resident DJ spinning music during their Sunday Brunch. It is by no means obnoxious and overbearing, just at a perfect enough volume to hear the beats yet not feel like youre talking over the music. It brings this amazing energy and awesome vibe into the restaurant that you can’t find at other brunch places in the city.
I will definitely be bringing myself over to Circa for their Sunday Brunch again!
