Go Kart Racer!

Looking for something to do thats different than your normal social activities living in the city? Then look no further. I’ve got your answer right here.

These are the only requirements: A car, casual clothing, tennis shoes, and $32 and you’re ready for an evening unlike any other.

Tonight we traveled 15 minutes south of the city into Burlingame and went Go Kart Racing. Now, this isn’t your Malibu Grand Prix track or bumper cars at the local fair, I’m talking real Go Kart Racing. The kind where you have to watch an informational video, wear proper racing gear (which they provide you), a helmet, and use the kind of flags they use at real racing events.

Here’s the quick showdown for newbies:

1) Walk in and self-register on the Go Kart Racer computer system.

2) Buy a 10 minute practice driving session (priced at $25) + $7 for a racing license (annual fee). I know, I know. 10 minutes doesn’t seem like that much, but trust me, for a beginner, its more than enough. But, if you’re feeling over-zealous and want more time, you can purchase the Race or Grand Prix sessions for 20 total minutes or 30 total minutes, respectively.

3) Put on a one-piece racer suit (available from small to extra large in both men and women) and wait for one of the staff members to let you in the “Briefing Room” to watch a five minute informational video. During the video, they detail everything about the race, from how to pick the right helmet to how to step into the Go Kart and what the various flag colors mean.

4) Once you’ve completed the video, then you’re ready to roll! There were about 6 of us total racing on the track tonight, and the most experienced drivers go first. Then its race time, baby! The first two laps will probably be your slowest timed laps, but as you get used to the course, each lap thereafter, is easier and easier.

I highly recommend all of you thrill-seeking San Franciscans to venture out 15 minutes south of the City and experience REAL Go Kart Racing.
